Accessible SCHELL products get top marks in four categories: PLUS X Award for the MODUS wash basin tap and shower fitting with anti-scalding protection

3-minute read

Quality and the power to innovate are a winning team – as demonstrated by SCHELL’s continuing success story and, most recently, our receipt of the PLUS X Award, the world’s leading innovation prize for technology, sport and lifestyle. SCHELL’s wash basin taps and shower fittings from the MODUS series won the award in four of seven possible categories: High Quality, Design, User Comfort and Functionality. The two award-winning fittings offer an impressive package of anti-scalding protection, ingenious design and simple operation, while ensuring that vulnerable users can also enjoy comfortable showering and hand washing. This makes the taps and fittings especially suitable for use in accessible sanitary facilities, hospitals, care homes and nursery schools.

Presented with the PLUS X Award in the four categories of High Quality, Design, User Comfort and Functionality: the MODUS EH-T wash basin tap with open loop handle and the  MODUS MD-T shower fitting. The two fittings offer an impressive package of anti-scalding protection, ingenious design and simple operation, while ensuring that vulnerable users can also enjoy comfortable showering and hand washing. This makes them especially suitable for use in accessible sanitary facilities.

Ideal for use in accessible projects

Water that is too hot can cause scalding and other serious injuries. People who cannot respond quickly to sudden dangers are especially at risk here – such as older individuals, those with restricted mobility or children. The elegant MODUS EH-T wash basin tap features an open loop handle that makes it easy to operate even by users with limited mobility: the hole in the middle makes it easier to take hold of than a solid handle. The innovative ThermoProtect technology with its thermostat cartridge offers optimum anti-scalding protection. Even if the cold water line fails or pressure fluctuations occur in the system, the water never becomes hotter than 43 °C. With the lever in the centre position, the water has a pleasant temperature of 32 °C – especially helpful for individuals unable to make fine adjustments to the lever position due to their physical condition.

The MODUS MD-T shower fitting is also equipped with ThermoProtect technology for reliable anti-scalding protection. In normal use, the shower thermostat water temperature can be adjusted up to 38 °C, with a further increase to a maximum of 43 °C also possible by pressing a button to release the temperature lock. The fitting also features IsoBody technology that ensures the thermally insulated housing is always the same temperature as its surroundings. With its timeless design, the SCHELL shower thermostat offers a premium haptic appeal and a well thought-out approach to its controls and markings. Operation is both intuitive and straightforward.

Economical and robust

Other product features also demonstrate how well-engineered SCHELL fittings are, with both award-winning MODUS fittings helping to save water. With the MODUS EH-T wash basin tap, the flow volume is individually configurable and can be mechanically limited. Litres-per-minute can also be reduced with the shower fitting, which means that it complies with the requirements for LEED or BREEAM certification. Thanks to their resilient, all-metal design, both fittings are especially robust and vandal-resistant, able to offer long and reliable service in day-to-day use, whether in private households or in public sanitary facilities.

“We are very happy to have received the PLUS X Award for our MODUS wash basin taps and shower fittings with anti-scalding protection. This is a welcome confirmation that our products not only capture the zeitgeist in terms of design but also optimally meet the needs of users,” comments Andrea Bußmann, Director of Sales, Marketing and Product Management at SCHELL.
