Challenge

A full renovation of this long-standing spa attraction was to involve comprehensive modernisation of the showers in the Hot Springs and Sauna areas, and the WCs in the reception area. Once completed, the sanitary facilities were to offer optimum support for maintaining drinking water quality and an outstanding level of user hygiene and convenience, while also blending seamlessly with the interior design.

Solution

SCHELL’s SWS Water Management System lies at the heart of the sanitary facility modernisation project at Taunus Therme. This advanced technological solution offers an easy and flexible approach to networking the drinking water tapping points present in the showers and WCs at the spa venue. Automatic stagnation flushes, which can be programmed individually at regular intervals, help facility managers maintain drinking water quality. Fittings in individual sections of the complex are also grouped together, which enables effective stagnation flushes with the high flow velocities required to do so. This enables easy simulation of specified normal operation. At the same time, contactless fittings, showers with automatic water stop and sensor-controlled urinal fittings offer visitors a high level of user hygiene and comfort. The SCHELL products chosen feature a minimalist design that enhances the elegant, modern decor of the sanitary facilities.

Shower facilities in the Sauna and Hot Springs areas were equipped with 32 LINUS DP-C-T shower panels, networked with SCHELL’s SWS. The self-closing exposed shower panels feature a minimalist, linear design and are especially economical with water thanks to their splash-/spray-proof CVD touch electronics. The thermostat cartridge offers anti-scalding protection by triggering a safety lock if the cold water line fails.

Twenty PURIS E HD-M electronic wash basin taps in an elegant chromed finish were also networked with SWS. Controlled by infrared sensors, the resource-friendly fittings keep water consumption low and, thanks to their contactless operation, also reduce the risk of contact infections.

For the WCs in the reception area, two LINUS W-E-M concealed wash basin taps – also with infrared sensor electronics – were also installed, alongside two MONTUS COMPACT II urinal modules with concealed flush valve and contactless EDITION E infrared sensor urinal control, as well as five MONTUS C-N 120 WC modules with MONTUS PLACE WC operating panels. All wash basin taps and urinal modules installed here have also been integrated with SWS.

Intelligent product solutions from SCHELL ensure the cost-effective and long-lasting operation of the drinking water installation in Taunus Therme, providing facility managers with effective support for maintaining drinking water and user hygiene.

Completed in 1978, Taunus Therme in the Hessian spa town of Bad Homburg vor der Höhe continues to impress visitors with its Far Eastern-inspired architecture of winding pathways, pagoda-like buildings and temples. Laid out according to the teachings of feng shui, three generously proportioned spa areas attract hundreds of thousands of visitors to the baths every year.

The Hot Springs area offers over 1,400 m² of both indoor and outdoor aquatic attractions, including bubble massage tubs, waterfalls and hot whirlpools, and therefore plenty of space for an invigorating bathing experience. The Sauna area offers everything spa fans could possibly want, with eight themed saunas from 45 °C to 100 °C and a separate women-only area with two saunas. Steam baths, loungers and singing bowls are on offer in the last area, the Dreamworld chillout zone.
