A club with a long history – and modern equipment: safely set up for the future with the SCHELL SWS Water Management System
View reference objectSR Oberlangkampfen (SR OLKA) is a football club based in Langkampfen, near the town of Kufstein in the Austrian state of Tyrol. SR OLKA’s new club house is not only a modern sports venue with advanced facilities but also a flagship project for drinking water hygiene. The SWS Water Management System and electronic taps from SCHELL were installed to achieve maximum hygiene standards in the new sanitary facilities. This was a decisive step, designed to ensure athletes and club visitors enjoy optimal hygiene conditions. In early 2025, the new building was inaugurated in an opening ceremony to coincide with the club’s 60th anniversary.

Sports venues like the SR OLKA club building present special challenges when it comes to preserving drinking water quality. While sanitary facilities are in constant use on training days and during tournaments, usage may be limited or even absent during holiday periods or the club’s seasonal closures. This can cause water to stagnate in the drinking water installation. Stagnating water harbours significant hygienic risks, as it actively promotes the rapid growth of bacteria like Legionella. At high concentrations, these kinds of bacteria pose a significant health risk to both athletes and visitors.
In the new club building, the owners decided to install the SCHELL SWS Water Management System together with a total of 34 electronic taps and fittings on the wash basins, in the shower cubicles and in the catering kitchen. SWS permits the centralised control and monitoring of all taps and fittings, and the automated execution of stagnation flushes to maintain drinking water quality. This effectively minimises the risk of Legionella spreading uncontrolled in the installation. Good user hygiene is ensured thanks to the infrared sensor controls on the CELIS E HD-M wash basin taps, LINUS D-C-T concealed showers and GRANDIS E kitchen tap. In addition, the ThermoProtect technology integrated into the LINUS shower fittings also offers highly effective anti-scalding protection.
The SCHELL SWS Water Management System networks together all of the electronic fittings installed in the new club building via the central SWS server. The SWS software can be used to adjust individual fitting parameters such as flush intervals, follow-up times and other settings. Thanks to the end-to-end logging of all flushes in CSV files, operators have ready access to proof that they have taken the necessary steps to maintain drinking water quality – thus fulfilling their duties from the German Drinking Water Regulation or similar legislation. As another key benefit, performing stagnation flushes with the SCHELL SWS Water Management System is not only time- and labour-saving but is also more efficient than manual flushing and considerably more economical for water consumption.
To minimise the risk of disease transmission, a total of eleven CELIS E HD-M electronic wash basin taps were installed. The intelligent infrared sensor control in this tap enables fully contactless operation: the flow of water is triggered without touch and stops automatically once the hands move out of the sensor’s detection range. There is no need to touch the tap with clean hands once handwashing is complete. Sensor technology is also an especially resource-friendly mode of operation: compared with regular single-lever mixers, SCHELL’s electronic wash basin taps can cut water consumption by up to 70 percent – and without making any compromises on user comfort. As an additional benefit, cutting hot water consumption also achieves significant savings on the energy needed to heat the water.
The multiple award-winning GRANDIS E kitchen tap was installed in the club’s catering kitchen. This hybrid tap features two separate controls: contactless via infrared sensor or manual as a single-lever mixer. This offers kitchen personnel both comfort and hygiene in their day-to-day work.
The owners viewed anti-scalding protection as especially important, as the sanitary facilities are also used by the club’s younger members. A total of 21 LINUS D-C-T concealed showers were installed in the shower cubicles for the home and visiting teams, as well as the showers used by referees. The integrated ThermoProtect technology gives athletes reliable protection against scald injuries by keeping temperatures constant during pressure fluctuations. The flow of water also stops automatically if the cold water line fails. The concealed showers are also equipped with integrated CVD touch electronics, which make sure that the flow of water stops after a pre-configured period of time. In this way, the fittings help to keep building operations resource-friendly and economical.
COMFORT Flex soft-stream shower heads also provide a pleasant showering experience. Anti-limescale burls on the shower heads make them especially easy to care for and durable.
By investing in this new club building, Langkampfen is making a clear commitment to the future of club sport in the region. The structure makes use of concrete and wooden materials to combine maximum stability with responsibility for the environment, and now offers modern, state-of-the-art facilities to both home and visiting teams. The roof structure has already been prepared for the installation of a photovoltaic system, so as to ensure efficient and environmentally friendly power long into the future.
Overall, around EUR 3 million has been spent on the new club building, located in the foothills of the Brandenberg Alps. This is also an investment in the future of SR OLKA football club: formed in 1965, the club now boasts eleven men’s, women’s and youth teams.
