Resource-friendly and superb user comfort: BNP Paribas Fortis picks sanitary solutions from SCHELL for its new company head office.

Forward-looking, responsible-minded and innovative – these are the values of BNP Paribas Fortis Bank. These were also to be embodied by the new head office building. For this reason, the owners picked high‑quality, resource‑friendly products from SCHELL when equipping their sanitary facilities.

Challenge

The aim was to ensure that the building could meet BREEAM requirements by using the latest technologies and high‑quality materials. A central point of focus here was ensuring the resource‑friendly operation of the sanitary facilities, as well as ensuring user hygiene and convenience.

Solution

To achieve the objective of resource‑friendly usage according to BREEAM standards in the sanitary facilities, all water connections were also equipped with SCHELL angle valves – namely COMFORT angle valves with a regulating function. Once optimally adjusted, these valves can reduce water consumption by up to 40 percent and their noise class I rating means they are especially quiet. The COMFORT handle also makes valve operation much easier. COMFORT combi‑angle valves were also installed. Thanks to their infrared sensors, the EDITION E urinal controls installed in the male sanitary facilities also improve user hygiene: flushes are activated without contact once the user goes out of detection range and the flush operation also stops automatically once it is complete.

Stagnation flushes help to maintain drinking water quality

EDITION E can carry out stagnation flushes to help avoid the critical propagation of Legionella bacteria. These flushes help maintain drinking water quality by ensuring an exchange of water takes place at a scheduled point in time. In addition, the stagnation flushes ensure that enough water is present in the odour trap to prevent bad odours. The frequency of these flushes can be adjusted using short‑range reflex.

BNP Paribas Fortis Head Office

With its imposing, organic contours and white columns decorating the facade, the new head office for BNP Paribas Fortis in the heart of Brussels is a real eyecatcher. The building covers an area of approximately 100,000 m2 and is designed as a passive building that meets the highest standards for innovation and environmental compatibility. Building systems include photovoltaic systems, a system for collecting and reusing rain water, and a seasonal thermal energy storage (STES) system. The STES system means the building can be heated in the cold seasons of the year with stored thermal energy.
